Course Description
Practitioners don’t often discuss gifts for therapy clients, but does that mean you should give something special to your clients or accept anything from them? Even though most therapists have regularly received gifts from clients, the idea of gifts in therapy has received minimal attention in ethical guidelines and literature. One reason may be that therapists are reluctant to talk openly about it for fear of being accused of some sort of boundary violation or of exploiting their clients. For similar reasons, some therapists are even less willing to discuss the gifts they give to clients.
This course, then, seeks to address common concerns and misconceptions about giving and receiving gifts in the therapeutic environment.
Key concepts covered include:
- Client/Practitioner Relationships
- Confidentiality
- Boundaries
- Research
